Gambian Mayor Praises Qcell

The Mayor of Kanifing City in the Republic of the Gambia, Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda on Wednesday 7th April 2021 visited QCell Sierra Leone Headquarters at their 1A Cockrill North Junction in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In his address, Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda praised Qcell for the tremendous work they are doing in Sierra Leone and for rapidly establishing their network countrywide adding that Qcell has provided employment opportunities in Sierra Leone, creating a huge impact in the economic and social sectors of the country and furthered that Africa can achieve so much if they come and work together as a continent.

Talking about the Q Group in The Gambia, Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda said the Q Group in The Gambia owns a bank, car dealership, an entertainment company and other businesses noting that Q Group has a social dynamic business and decided to invest along with their municipality to bring about 25 trucks costing 25 million dollars to collect wastes. He informed that they collect 500 tons of wastes daily intimating basis that the business is doing well in The Gambia and that they as Gambians, appreciate and are proud of the Q Group businesses concluding that they hope to extend their business venture in Sierra Leone and called on Sierra Leonean businesses to try and invest in The Gambia because as Africans we need to help develop the continent.

Welcoming the Mayor of Kanifing at the Qcell Headquarters in Freetown, the Chief Executive Officer of QCell Sierra Leone, Mr. Jayamani Karthik said they are overwhelmed to receive the Mayor of Kanifing and observed that as a company this a big opportunity and honor to host such a wonderful mayor. He said they are here in Sierra Leone to stay and help in the development of the telecommunications and other sectors in the country.

The company’s Senior Marketing Manager, Edward Nelson Pratt, disclosed that QCell is proving to be the fastest growing network in the country and continued that QCell is of Sierra Leoneans, for Sierra Leoneans and by Sierra Leoneans, the more reason why one would find a lot of young Sierra Leoneans in the company.

According to him, QCell would continue to support its growing customer base as that is one reason why QCell has brought lots of outlets for their customers in the form of Care Shops thus bringing the company much closer to the people for easy accessibility to its products and services. He also disclosed that within two years in operation they have almost covered the entire Sierra Leone. On behalf of the Mayor of Freetown City, Deputy Mayor Osman T Koroma said they are very much pleased with such transformation of Qcell within the shortest period to have launched the 4Q network.

He called on management of the company to continue to work with the Freetown City Council on its sincere and determined drive to transform Freetown as the Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer is very personate about the development of Freetown City. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Williams.
